Combined Shutters
Shutters in any style provide a home with both architectural texture and protection in the event of a storm. Contemporary shutters may serve only an aesthetic purpose or thrown up in a hurry for functional purposes, but most shutters today are a combination of these elements as well as a number of other characteristics found in other common shutter designs.
Shutters are, for the most part, installed on the exterior of a home though they may also be used as interior window treatments. They can be manufactured in materials ranging from fiberglass to wood to vinyl. Every design is customizable according to size and color, but this is where the commonalities among shutters end. The characteristics and shutter designs available are wide and varied.
Some of the most popular include the following:
- Louvered Shutters – May be flat or tapered with horizontal or vertical louvers that are operable or fixed shut.
- Panel Shutters – May be raised, flat or recessed and single or double faced, with or without cutouts and engravings.
- Board and Batten Shutters – Single shutters that protect one or more windows available in any width, with and without air gaps, breadboard ends or cutouts.
The term 'combination shutters' refers to any style of shutter that does not fall directly into one of the above categories but combines characteristics of some or all of them. For example we offer the Raleigh shutter made from fiberglass which combines both Louvered and Paneled allowing for ventilation on the top half, and privacy on the bottom.
